When you walk through our doors on Broadway, you're not just ordering food — you're sitting down at someone's kitchen table. La Cocina del Barrio has been feeding Inwood families since 2009, and every plate we serve is built from the same recipes that traveled with us from Santiago and Santo Domingo.

Our Menu: The Flavors of Home

We built our menu around the dishes that matter — the ones you crave at 11pm, the ones that show up at every birthday, the ones your abuela made on Sundays. Whether you're coming in for a quick lunch or a full dinner with the family, we have you covered.

Signature Dishes

  • Mofongo con Camarones — house-made garlic mofongo piled with sautéed shrimp in a sofrito broth
  • Pernil Asado — slow-roasted pork shoulder, 12 hours, served with moro and tostones
  • Mangú Tres Golpes — our classic breakfast: mashed green plantains with fried salami, eggs & white cheese
  • Sancocho Dominicano — hearty seven-meat stew, available Saturdays only while supply lasts
  • Pollo Guisado — Dominican braised chicken, stewed low and slow in sofrito and tomato sauce

All entrées include white rice, red beans or moro, and a side of sweet plantains or tostones. Fresh-squeezed jugo de chinola (passion fruit) and morir soñando are always on the counter.

Why Inwood Eats Here

Inwood is home to one of New York's most vibrant Dominican communities — and we've been a part of it for 15 years. Our chefs are from the island, our produce comes from the 207th Street farmers market when it's in season, and our dining room is loud, warm, and always full on weekends.

We don't do frozen shortcuts. Sofrito is made fresh every morning. The pernil goes in the oven at midnight. The beans get a full sazón. That's why people who grew up in DR say it tastes like home — because we do it the same way they do at home.
